Class Description:
Experience the magic of sand casting! This versatile technique allows metalsmiths to create unique pieces with efficiency and precision, using a variety of materials! This hands-on class covers the fundamentals of sand casting, from mold preparation to venting, melting the metal, and metal flow.
This class is open to all levels of metalsmith, beginners welcome.
Students will complete a series of sample casts, with their chosen metal (bronze or aluminum will be provided, students can bring their own silver if they wish). Each sample cast will teach students a different technique to build confidence and deepen their understanding of how metal flows and behaves within a mold. Whether you're interested in producing one-of-a-kind pieces or creating duplicates, this workshop will provide the skills and knowledge to integrate sand casting into your metalsmithing practice.

This one day class meets IN-PERSON at the Metal Arts Guild of Georgia. Please plan to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to class.
Sand Casting
Prerequisites: This class is open to all levels of metalsmith. We’ll discuss how sand casting can be incorporated into your metalsmithing practice but this doesn’t exclude beginners! Sandcasting is a powerful technique for all skill levels!
