Class Description:
In this class, we will be building on your previous experience and skill level. With emphasis on design considerations, in the Spring 2026 class we will make a custom ring--for yourself or a potential customer. Size and proportion of the hand, the ring shank, and the stone should work together harmoniously. We will work in silver, copper, brass, and/or gold, with a focus on the properties of each metal and creative ways to work in mixed metals. In the first class, each student will create a design and a template. Brass for the templates will be provided. Bring your precious metals, including scraps for recycling.
Working with silver and gold includes alloying, pouring ingots, as well as fabricating sheet, wire and tubing. On the advanced level, the class prepares those who want to make jewelry professionally, while paying close attention to every student's needs.
We will also learn filing techniques and some repousse.
Please Note:
MAGG has instituted a $15 Lab Fee for all weekly classes starting in 2026. You will see this fee automatically added to your cart at checkout, under the "Delivery" Section. This is not a shipping charge.
