Prong Setting Cabochons

Prerequisite: Comfortable with basic jewelry techniques & soldering.
 
This class will teach stone setting, from the initial planning and fabrication of your prong mounting, to the final setting of your stone. Students will become more refined in their approach to working at the bench as they use basic building and soldering techniques to create settings, made specifically for their stones. The demonstration will focus on building a prong for a cabochon that is flat on the back.
 
This class will be challenging but does not require an extensive background in previous setting experience. Students should come eager to listen, learn, and ready to work. The teacher will take care of the rest!
 
This is a one day workshop that will alternate between demonstration and working time for students to practice what is discussed to reinforce the techniques introduced.
Bring any prong setting projects that you are working on and have questions about.
Time allowing, equations from these outside projects could facilitate some great discussions on the topic being taught.
 
The instructor’s goal for this class is for each student to be challenged within their ability and that they each go home with confidence on the topics being presented. Students taking the class should be comfortable with basic jewelry techniques such as using a hammer, pliers, saw frame, files, etc. It is recommended but not required that students be comfortable with lighting a torch and soldering.
