Wax Carving Rings
Instructor Courtney Poole Pendegrast
1 Session, Saturday, 2pm - 7pm
Class Dates: 11/21
Course Fee: $160.00
Lab Fee: $10.00
Prerequisite: None.
Students will be taught how to carve a ring that is fully prepared for casting. From planning the layout and design, to carefully and efficiently removing all the extra material that is hiding within your chunk of wax – students will learn a practical approach to wax carving.
This class will focus on the wax carving process. We will address the importance of planning, choosing what wax to use, how to think three dimensionally, tips for making your piece more symmetrical (or intentionally asymmetrical), and how to choose the right tool to achieve what you want.
We will also discuss a general overview of the casting process and how this relates to our wax carving so students can make more informed design decisions as they work on their waxes.
Students will complete a carved wax ring ready for casting. After the workshop is complete, students may optionally contract Instructor Dallas Vinson's casting services and have their wax ring cast in metal (silver, gold, brass or bronze) for an additional $50 casting fee. Metal for casting can be purchased directly from Dallas or provided by the student.
