What happens when a bracelet becomes more than a band around the wrist? In this three-day jewelry and metals workshop, students will explore the hinged panel bracelet as both a sculptural structure and a vehicle for personal design. Each individual panel becomes an opportunity to develop an image, pattern, texture, or small sculptural idea, while the hinges bring the separate elements together into a unified, moving form.
The workshop begins with demonstrations, discussion, and a series of hands-on samples exploring panel construction, forming, texturing, hinges, connections, and closures. Students will then move into the design and fabrication of their own bracelet, developing a series of individually designed panels that work together as a cohesive composition. Along the way, we will consider rhythm, repetition, scale, negative space, movement, and how individual elements can create a larger visual narrative when joined together.
This is an opportunity to push beyond traditional bracelet design and think of the wrist as a moving gallery of small ideas. Design the panels. Build the connections. Make the whole greater than its parts.
Registration for this workshop includes access to the video recording, available for 45 days following the workshop for all participants.
