Soldering & Filigree

Prerequisite: Students must have some recent experience soldering.
 
In this class, we will focus on refining our soldering skills in the context of traditional open back filigree.  Throughout the class, we will analyze our approach to soldering and discuss how we can improve this essential skill.  The project demonstrated will be a filigree pendant, but students are welcome to work on any soldering project after the demonstration.  Along with improved soldering skills, other techniques that will be taught in this class include how to make filigree wire, analyzing strength in layout and design, awareness of connections when soldering, and tricks to overcome the challenges of connecting fine wires to larger frames.  Filigree is a tedious process that requires patience and consideration, as such, students will be encouraged to pace themselves accordingly with their projects. The instructor’s goal for this class is for each student to go home with confidence on the topic being presented and the guarantee is that each student will leave with better soldering skills.
