Thick or thin. Plain or patterned. Including stones or simply metal. Using a variety of shapes and sizes of wire and sheet, we will learn how to properly measure to create the perfect size rings. We will texture, roll, twist, solder and add a stones to rings. Student should expect to complete 2-3 stack rings depending on the complexity of their design, Student are also free to explore a variety of techniques to add to their repertoire. Students of all levels welcome.

We will also explore several pulling techniques for creating ribbon like jewelry. Previous Add to Cart Next Taught by Guest Instructor Jennifer Stenhouse The ancient art of Mitsuro Hikime is a Japanese modeling wax that creates exceptionally delicate detail that resembles the most exquisite the texture of organic material like grass, hair, or flowing silk. The wax is made up of a mixture of pine resin and bees wax, along with other waxes, depending on the recipe you use. (You can buy it pre-made and focus on design.) You may want to customize your wax to your preferences. This is done by understanding the recipe. Much like taffy, the cold wax is gently warmed and pulled until the desired effect is created. Students will learn how to make their own wax with hands on demonstration. They will also learn how to adjust the wax to their personal needs for creating models. Then we will explore several pulling techniques for creating ribbon like jewelry. Jennifer will also show students how to include a few stone setting possibilities for lost wax casting. In this two-day workshop, you’ll learn how to incorporate gold into your work without putting yourself in the poorhouse. In fact, you’ll be able to add stunning gold accents to your work for as little as $20. We’ll start by exploring alternative forms of gold—placer gold flour, gold powder, gold foil flakes—that offer more mileage than traditional forms such as wire, sheet and casting grain. We’ll alloy various karats and colors of gold so you can use less of the precious stuff while preserving its beautiful glow. We’ll also explore gold fusion approaches tailored specifically for gold and steel using a variety of bonding and heat control strategies. You’ll experiment with layering, fusing, and burnishing to achieve rich textures, unexpected effects and bold contrasts between raw blackened steel and the glow of gold. Larissa graduated from the University of West Georgia with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in studio art. She currently teaches "Introduction to Design and Construction" in Jewelry and Metals at UGA.
