Learn to Make Jewelry Have you ever wanted to learn to make jewelry? This is where you start. We will teach you all the tips and tricks you need to succeed, from start to finish. Learn how to safely use the tools of the trade, and make something beautiful and amazing. Beginning Jewelry Classes No events at the moment How do you get started? Metalsmithing is the ancient art of moving metal. Whether it's making jewelry, or making bowls or sculpture, you must know how to move the metal. But there's a huge difference between bashing a large piece of steel with a hammer and making a delicate silver or gold pendant. So that's where we start. When you choose a class that fits your schedule, you will receive a list of tools and materials required for that class. Then all you have to do is show up! Learn all the Skills Metal Cutting How to use a Jeweler's Saw How to use a Press Drill Holes Using Burs How to get a good finish How to set a stone How to file correctly How to use a flex shaft You will be making jewelry from the minute you step in the classroom. Previous Add to Cart Next On Saturday, November 12, 2022, The Metal Arts Guild of Georgia presents its Annual Jewelry Show and Sale at a spacious and inviting community location in one of Atlanta’s well-known in-town neighborhoods. The Guild will be showing the artistry, imagination and skills of local and regional artists. The venue is located at the BRIARCLIFF WOODS BEACH CLUB 1830 Morris Landers Drive, NE, Atlanta 30345. In addition, the Guild will highlight its outreach to young and beginning metalsmiths nurturing the craft to a new generation. Our historical perspective will also be highlighted, revealing our very beginnings and development over the years to our present new and expansive look and feel. All this is to say we offer you a dazzling experience to meet and shop with our artists in person and experience the importance, no, necessity, of craft and art in our lives. In this fast paced studio class, you will be introduced to a variety of tools and hand skills used to create jewelry and objects from non-ferrous metals. Using brass, copper, and sterling silver you will be introduced to a number of jewelry making techniques. Those techniques will include, but not be limited to: sawing, piercing, filing, sanding, riveting, texturing, forming, finishing, soldering and bezel setting a stone. With a focus on the principles of design, student projects may include pendants, rings, earrings, bracelets and hand-made chains. Previous Add to Cart Next Learn from Sarah Chapman Are you a jeweler with a hydraulic press sitting in your studio collecting dust? Or are you on the fence about whether you NEED a hydraulic press? Whether you own a hydraulic press, thinking about getting one, or want to use it in our studio, this fast-paced workshop will show you how to create form and texture in metal with the hydraulic press to create a “sampler quilt.” Through a combination of demonstration and practice: Learn how to achieve results not easily accomplished with any other methods by using the hydraulic press to experiment with techniques, such as embossing, pillowing, and die-cutting. Learn to utilize mechanical or “cold connections” that require just a few tools and no soldering, such as wire wrapping, mushroom rivets, tube rivets, stitching, staples, and using miniature nuts and bolts. Create your sampler quilt to hang on your wall or wear as a piece of jewelry. While this is an introductory level workshop, some fundamental metalwork experience is recommended. Skills needed to satisfactorily complete the project include the ability to use a jeweler’s saw frame and prior experience with filing metal. Cancellations and Refunds MAGG has implemented a minimum enrollment policy of four students per class, effective immediately. By registering, the student understands that if the minimum enrollment of four students is not met, MAGG reserves the right to cancel the class. All students must register at least two weeks before the class start date to allow sufficient time to meet the minimum requirement and confirm the class will proceed as scheduled. If the class for which you are registering does not meet the minimum, you will be notified and given the opportunity to enroll in another offering. If you need to cancel your registration, please email cancel@metalartsguildga.org as soon as possible. Cancellation Policy All refunds are subject to a nonrefundable service fee. If a participant withdraws from a class or workshop more than 30 days prior to the first day of the class or workshop, Metal Arts Guild of Georgia will grant a refund less a 20% cancellation fee and nonrefundable service fee. If a participant withdraws from a class or workshop less than 30 days prior but more than 14 days prior to the first day of the class or workshop, Metal Arts Guild of Georgia will grant a refund of 50%. Metal Arts Guild of Georgia cannot issue a refund for cancellations received 14 days or less before the first day of a class or workshop due to contractual obligations with our instructors. All refunds are subject to a nonrefundable service fee. Transitions: As of May 1, 2024, there will be an administrative fee of $30 applicable for any changes made to your class format, including moving from in-person to virtual sessions. This fee is implemented to cover the administrative costs associated with processing such changes. The Metal Arts Guild of Georgia, Inc., reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. You will be notified of class cancellation at least one week in advance of the class start date. If a class is cancelled, your registration may be transferred to the upcoming class of your choice. If there is no upcoming class offered which you wish to take, you will be issued a refund. MAGG is not responsible for supplies purchased by enrollees for the class if the class is cancelled. MAGG will not reimburse students for supplies purchased in anticipation of a class.
