Class Description

Do you have gems you want to set in a special way? Let’s do it. This class is perfect for setting gems with odd shapes or sizes, and for stepping beyond what you know about bezels. We will work on design and technique to produce jewelry featuring your favorite gems using a variety of bezel techniques.

Bezels are a jewelry basic, but they needn't be boring. Let your gem tell you how it wants to be set. Learn to design settings that highlight the unique features of each gem. Setting styles could include Partial Bezels, Tapered Bezels, Shaped Bezels, or Tube Settings. We'll make whatever the gems need to look their best.

PREREQUISITE:  Beginning skills and your own project ideas (or be a continuing student from Bezels 3 Ways class).

Materials

Bring your own gems and metal.

Judy Parady

I am a lifelong metalsmith, jewelry maker and teacher. I have a BVA in Jewelry Design and Silversmithing, an MFA in sculpture, and a lifetime of working in the trade, exhibiting and selling my jewelry, and teaching others. I’ve learned to value the lineage of metalsmithing and the cultural importance of jewelry-wearing. Increasing my knowledge of design and awareness of jewelry’s cultural history is an ongoing quest, one that enhances my practice every day. I approach teaching metalsmithing with the excitement that each of you have been called to the same path.
