Stationary or Swinging? on a Post or an Ear wire? Textured or Polished? So many options… In this one day intensive we will explore all these possibilities and more! Some of the techniques that will be covered are fine soldering of ear wires and earring posts, creating hand-made ear wires, simple earring mechanisms, riveting, different approaches to creating movement and adding dimension to your designs, various surface embellishments and patinas. Students should expect to complete at least 1 pair of earrings, or a variety of experiments. It is up to you! Prerequisite None. Students of all skill level are welcome. He will also demonstrate making tube settings for accent diamonds. Ryan will show students multiple ways of making ring shanks including his three-layer rings with a textured center. This workshop will also get into fabricating different connections for adding clean articulation to your work as well as some tips for adding gold design elements to elevate your work without breaking the bank. You will be able to turn your carvings into silver or gold after the class, or mid-way during the class with the use of our MAGG artist Dallas Vinson for casting! While in the class we will approach how to plan your ring designs, how to plot and prep your ring for gemstones. We will also learn how to properly prep your wax piece to be able to successfully cast in your desired metal. This class will focus on using faceted gemstones and prong settings. You will learn how to fabricate prongs out of wax in class! We will look at making a basket setting, talking about what clients typically look for in their rings, how to think about your project with a client in mind, etc.! This class will focus on making rings, however you are very welcome to use all the techniques we will be covering in class to make pendants or earrings while in the class. The class will also be project lead, in which you can choose to participate or work on your own designs! I will be in the class each time to help you with your unique projects, guide you along the way, and show you something new during every class. You will be able to bring and use your own gemstones during class, but some CZ gemstones will be provided to you in class for free! Suggested gemstone sizes to bring are standard calibrated cuts under 1.5ct in size. (8x6mm,9x7mm,7mm and under suggested but bigger can be okay!) Previous Add to Cart Next Design Therapy- where you come for a little artist “TLC” Ever feel stuck in your jewelry designs? Feel like a piece is sitting “pretty” but isn’t very compelling, or isn’t distinguishable as an original work? Think of Design Therapy as “Artist Show & Tell- with Extra Steps.” For a small donation, come sit with us as we round-table about our concepts, creation, and uniquely individual aesthetics as jewelry designers. We’ll go around the group where each person will have time to present their work, and then the group will gently critique and guide you towards leveling up and solving your design dilemmas. Build community with us while we discuss work! Anyone can attend with a $10 donation towards MAGG for our move to our new location. You will submit your donation at entry to the event, cash only. Please RSVP- capped at 8 attendees so everyone gets enough time to speak. This event is facilitated by Dana Marie Burmeister, who holds dual Master of Arts degrees from the Savannah College of Art & Design in Jewelry & Metals and Luxury & Fashion Management where she studied jewelry fabrication, design, marketing and manufacturing.
