Class Description

This workshop is a combination between pre-recorded technique videos and live mentorship from Susan Lenart via Zoom. We will meet on Zoom at the beginning of each day, separate to watch and practice, then come together at the end of the day for questions and feedback.

In this workshop, you will be encouraged to explore unusual shapes, stone and object setting, hollow forms, and filigree techniques with wire and granulation to compose a beautiful, expressive pendant or ring.

Throughout history, prayer boxes and talismans have been worn to bring qualities, prayers, or specific intentions into our lives. These are time-honored traditions that we bring into the modern age with shapes personal to you.

You’ll use a template to design the surface of your hollow form and learn how to add granulation while working in layers of sterling silver. Use this time to explore. We’ll be working with small amounts of wire and granulation so you won’t feel nervous about making mistakes. We embrace mistakes because that’s how we break through our comfort zones. We’ll do a yoga breathing technique before we get started each day so that you come to your work with fresh focus.

To get familiar with Susan's techniques and teaching style, we suggest watching Alchemy of Soldering before the workshop begins. This is a live 2-hour class on the basics of torch soldering silver.
